Worcester State University is the home  of the John Binienda Center for Citizen Engagement

 

The Watershed Science Laboratory at Worcester State University serves to focus faculty, student, and community attention on watershed issues. A watershed is an area of land that drains all of the rain and snow that falls within it to a single larger body of water such as a river, lake, or the ocean. Watersheds are a fundamental component of the geologic, hydrologic, ecologic, and cultural/industrial landscape and serve as a basic unit for addressing many regional scale management decisions related to complex, interdisciplinary environmental problems.

 

Worcester State University's 2015 Strategic Planning Implementation Fund received more than 40 proposals and twelve were awarded funding. Among the proposals funded:

John Binienda Beach Improvements

 

Alhambra Knights of Columbus Beach and Shoreline Improvements

Working for Worcester will help create an accessible beach at the Knights of Columbus lodge located on Coes Pond. This first-time site will expand recreational opportunities for the disability community and local community, as well as help beautify the area in collaborative efforts with the City.
